Oh pizza! The Italians created the concept and still tout the world’s best, but man did the United States sure make it great (no, this is not a Donald Trump endorsement. I repeat!). I mean, I guarantee you the Italians did not envision pineapple being sprinkled-upon this delectable dish. Nor did they think that someday you would be able to order via the internet and receive a fresh pie at your doorstep within 30 minutes (…or 45 minutes, pending the reliability of your delivery driver).
Well, right here in little ‘ole Miami, I was fortunate enough to find pizza infused with the best of both worlds.
Touted as the “Neighborhood American Pizzeria”, and the brainchild of James Beard Award-winning chef Michael Schwartz, Harry’s Pizzeria takes the approach of the classic Italian vibe, paired with everything that’s “hip” about pizza here in the United States.
And what does that mean, you ask? The pictures in this post tell the story for me.
But now let’s get down to the juicy details. On a recent visit to Harry’s Pizzeria, I found myself ordering a classic diavola pizza – essentially a pepperoni pizza with the addition of spicy salami. Man, this was ON-POINT! And I haven’t even gotten to the best part. I must not forget the hand-tossed, yet crispy and blackened, wood-fired crust of the pizza. This absolutely defines pizza at its best! Lastly, I paired my tasty pizza with their Homemade Focaccia bread, which was to die for! You literally receive your own little loaf, with the various herbs and such that make Focaccia great, sprinkled on top with their flavors oozing into the bread.
A suggestion to visit Harry’s Pizzeria undoubtedly deserves a fist-bump. And with Harry’s Pizzeria, twice is nice in Miami: their locations in the Design District and Coconut Grove faithfully service customers around the clock.
Leading into one of our greatest American holiday weekends, I highly recommend you give Harry’s Pizzeria a try for yourself. Happy Labor Day Weekend and be safe, Miami!
